Venture Capital News: ScienceLogic Raises $15M

2012-04-23
RESTON, VA, Provider of IT operations and cloud management software, has secured $15 million in Series B funding led by Intel Capital.
ScienceLogic Inc., a provider of IT operations and cloud management software, has secured $15 million in Series B funding led by Intel Capital and appointed John Becker as CEO to fuel the next stage in the company's growth. Previous CEO and company co-founder David Link will remain as chairman of the board. With the most comprehensive and flexible IT management software platform on the market, ScienceLogic is used by service providers, corporations and government entities to improve IT operations efficiency and add new services across data center and cloud computing infrastructures.

Intel Capital is joined by previous investor New Enterprise Associates (NEA). ScienceLogic will use the capital to fund global sales expansion, marketing and development of its technology. The investment from Intel Capital and NEA brings ScienceLogic's total financing to $30 million.

"Both Intel Capital and NEA understand that as organizations move infrastructure and services to the cloud, it's critical to have unified, dynamic management of IT service delivery across all computing and application resources used no matter where they reside," said Becker. "This is an opportune time to join ScienceLogic with its continued growth and strong backing from NEA and new investor Intel Capital. We see this as confirmation of the strength of our platform and our superior approach to IT management in the 21st century. I'm honored to be leading this talented team during this dynamic time in the company's history."

Becker is a seasoned technology executive with more than 30 years of experience. Previously, he was CEO of Approva Corporation, where his leadership was instrumental in the company's acquisition by Lawson Software. Becker has also held CEO positions at Cybertrust, TruSecure Corp. and AXENT Technologies, where he demonstrated a strong track record of leading companies through rapid growth phases.

"John has a tremendous track record of capitalizing on strategic market opportunities and leading his companies to prominence, so ScienceLogic is fortunate to have attracted someone of his caliber at this stage of our development," said Link. "I'm looking forward to working closely with him on our long-term vision to take the company to the next level of growth and profitability."

The ScienceLogic platform integrates the core IT infrastructure management functions needed to run today's complex, distributed computing infrastructures -- including systems, performance, network, service, event, and asset management capabilities, as well as run book automation and service desk -- all in one product with one unified code base, user interface and centralized data repository. This provides a constantly updated picture of service quality across heterogeneous technologies as well as physical, virtual and cloud computing resources. As a result, the product helps organizations maintain optimal application performance, become more agile and responsive, mitigate the risk of change, and focus on more strategic differentiators versus simply running IT projects.

In addition, the product provides the foundation for service providers to create new IT operations and cloud monitoring service offerings with its multi-tenancy capabilities, visibility into all key IT performance metrics, and intelligent, customized dashboards and reports than can be fully branded with the service provider's own logo and color schemes. Not only does this help generate additional revenue from each service provider client, but it also serves as a competitive differentiator. Corporations wishing to emulate the multi-tenant service provider model and extend IT service catalogs to end users will also benefit from the ScienceLogic product.

Supporting quotes:
"As enterprises increasingly adopt internal and external cloud solutions, IT managers need a consistent view and control over business critical applications, no matter where they are deployed," said Andy Fligel, Intel Capital Investment Director. "ScienceLogic offers the most comprehensive IT management platform, purpose-built for distributed, multi-tenant cloud architectures. More and more of the leading service providers are standardizing IT operations management on ScienceLogic's platform, and we see a bright future for the company."

"The task of managing resources and data that are constantly shifting due to technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing is becoming exponentially harder, which is creating a great market need for ScienceLogic's management technology by both service providers and enterprises," said Harry Weller, General Partner, NEA. "ScienceLogic simplifies management with a modern product that was built from day one to manage computing across distributed resources including public, private and hybrid clouds and is already proven in enterprise, government and service provider environments."
