Venture Capital News: Xperiel Raises $7M in Funding

2016-08-12
SUNNYVALE, CA, Xperiel has raised $7M in funding.
Xperiel today announced availability of its cloud-based Real World Web (RWW) platform. The RWW brings mixed reality experiences to consumers by unifying the physical and digital worlds. The Xperiel platform provides the tools for building and hosting the RWW. It makes it possible to connect everything to the IoT, build cloud-based applications and deliver mixed reality experiences across any OS or connected device.

'Technology today is largely inadequate when it comes to addressing how to leverage the IoT and physical infrastructure to better engage customers and drive commerce,' said Stephen Hendrick, principal analyst for application development and deployment research, ESG. 'Xperiel is breaking new ground by providing a highly abstracted language for building event-driven, device-agnostic applications as well as an IoT-centric connectivity fabric that ties together devices, events and content to enable customer engagement and commerce that is far more effective than other available solutions.'

The Xperiel platform is comprised of three components:

Graphical programming language - Based on the Xperiel founders' Ph.D. research, the completely cloud-based and patented Xperiel pebbling language opens doors for non-technical people to build applications in days instead of months that can be iterated on the fly based on real-time user feedback and analytics. This design-oriented, graphical language prevents applications from delivering stale interactions and radically reduces the time and cost needed to deliver engaging experiences because highly specialized technical and engineering teams and massive development budgets are no longer needed.
Device-agnostic apps in the cloud - Applications developed with Xperiel are entirely cloud-based without sacrificing native performance. This means they can be programmed once and work seamlessly on any device regardless of operating system or platform. They can be standalone, merged into existing apps or even run without needing to be installed, and can be rapidly modified and delivered with minimal effort.
Universal trigger fabric - Xperiel connects any hardware or software -- past, present or future -- to the IoT by turning it into an interaction point that triggers Xperiel applications through existing sensors built into mobile phones, wearables, virtual reality and augmented reality headsets, etc. This allows brands to connect everything -- from score boards to signage to beverage cups and social media channels -- to Xperiel applications. It also provides new ways to engage consumers and opens up untapped revenue streams that help marketing teams maximize campaigns.
'Dodger Stadium provides our ball club with unlimited opportunities to connect with fans through their mobile devices during home games. Opportunities include everything from promoting special offers to providing personalized greetings on our big screens to playing sponsored games and contests where they can win meetings with their favorite players,' said Tucker Kain, Los Angeles Dodgers CFO. 'Xperiel is turning our park and everything in it into a giant physical-digital ecosystem, where every inch of real estate can become digitally interactive, connecting fans with experiences that drive higher engagement rates, monetization and fun.'

Experiential Marketing at Scale
Xperiel provides unlimited opportunities for the IoT, and one of its early use cases is experiential marketing for mobile devices at scale. Currently, most mobile marketing is comprised of nothing more than intrusive pop-up ads that are being ignored by recipients or avoided altogether due to ad blocking technologies. Advertising and marketing organizations have tried to sidestep ad tech challenges by developing and deploying mobile applications designed to deliver customized engagement opportunities for their clients' target audiences. These attempts have fallen short on delivering on their promise, as they require specialized engineers, lengthy development cycles and large budgets. The Xperiel platform transforms the experiential marketing and advertising development dynamic by enabling anyone to create and deploy sophisticated mobile apps that are connected to the IoT at less than 1/100th of the amount of time and cost previously required. This new model provides an enjoyable way to develop apps and opens up net-new avenues of value for companies in the form of revenue, loyalty and reach.

'There are a lot of IoT platforms available on the market, and Xperiel is the only company that has figured out a way to take every piece of IoT technology and tie it together in an effective and mainstream way,' said Alex Hertel, CEO and cofounder, Xperiel. 'With Xperiel providing an orchestration layer for the IoT we've opened up the door for an infinite amount of possible interactions between people, machines and devices, bringing to market the consumer-facing portion of IoT that we call the Real World Web.'

About Xperiel
Xperiel brings the Real World Web (RWW) to life. The RWW is where the physical and digital worlds converge to provide mixed reality experiences for consumers across any OS or mobile device. To orchestrate the RWW, the inventors of Google Wallet technology built the Xperiel platform, comprised of a universal trigger fabric, device-agnostic applications in the cloud and an all new graphical programming language based on the founders' original Ph.D. research. Xperiel makes it possible for users to quickly build device-agnostic applications in the cloud that are contextually aware and can communicate with real world and online triggers. A trigger is an activation point that signals Xperiel to deliver immersive, customized experiences to individuals via their mobile phones, wearables, virtual reality technology or any connected device. Xperiel's patented, easy-to-use graphical programming language opens the door for non-technical people to develop applications in less than an hour, radically compressing the time and cost it takes to build IoT apps. Xperiel changes the way people can and will interact with a completely connected world. Companies in industries spanning professional sports, entertainment, retail and more are using the Xperiel platform to maximize the value of their IoT investments. Organizations including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pepsico use Xperiel to deliver engaging experiences via the RWW that ensure loyalty while increasing revenue opportunities.
