2013-01-09
CINCINNATI, OH, Web-based service and mobile app that lets parents and children interact to enjoy and complete chores, has closed a $775,000 seed round.
ChoreMonster, a Web-based service and mobile app that lets parents and children interact to enjoy and complete chores, has closed a $775,000 seed round and has come out of beta with a public launch.

CincyTech led the seed round with $250,000, and angel investors followed up with an additional $450,000. ChoreMonster also represents one of the first investments for Vine Street Ventures, a new seed fund launched to invest in startups that graduate from Cincinnati-based, nationally ranked consumer marketing accelerator The Brandery. ChoreMonster is a 2011 Brandery graduate and is based in Cincinnati.

ChoreMonster's product includes two separate applications: one for parents and one for children. Parents assign chores to their kids, along with a set number of points for completing a chore. Children use the points they earn to receive rewards parents create, such as ice cream, a new video game or a trip to the zoo. They also earn interactive monsters they can play with and learn from.

"Getting kids to do their chores is at the top of any parent's to-do list, while playing fun, interactive games on their computer or mobile device is what the kids care about," said Chris Bergman, co-founder and CEO. "With ChoreMonster, the wishes of both parents and their children can be fulfilled."

ChoreMonster conducted beta testing in more than 21,000 households in 50 countries. More than 300,000 chores were completed during the testing phase. The Web site is now open to the public and the app is available on iTunes.
