CincyTech today announced a second investment in Kapture, a Cincinnati-based startup creating a wristband that can capture and preserve what you just heard. The investment completed a $680,000 seed round which included angel investors and Design 2 Matter, the Mountain View, CA-based industrial design firm that has designed and built the device.

A planned Spring 2014 launch of the Kapture wristband and mobile app follows a successful $162,386 Kickstarter campaign and a strong showing at the trendsetting Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014.

'We think Mike and Matthew have hit on an interesting concept around the capture and sharing of audio. Twitter does text, Viddy does video, but no application or device helps people do the same for audio,' said CincyTech principal Justin Thompson.

The Kapture wristband is a marriage of technology, design and social media, mirroring the backgrounds of its founders. Mike Sarow is an engineer and former brand marketer at Procter & Gamble. Matthew Dooley is a social media entrepreneur and professor. Sarow started thinking about the idea for a while traveling with friends and wondering how he could preserve their great conversations and stories.

'The trick with audio sharing is to give your audience a short digestible sample of fresh and original content,' Sarow said. 'Now with Kapture, you can share meaningful and viral audio.'

Dooley added, 'We all engage in amazing conversations. We're just not equipped to do anything with them.'

The wrist-worn device is stylish and simple to use. The omni-directional microphone is always on, constantly buffering the last 60 seconds of audio. When the mundane turns memorable, a tap on the microphone grill saves the previous 60 second clip and sends it to Kapture's mobile app for editing and sharing.

The Kapture wristband, available in 6 colors, is currently offered for pre-order at www.kaptureaudio.com.
