2012-03-09
LOS ANGELES, CA, Creators of the first community organizing system, announced it has secured $6.25 million in funding led by Andreessen Horowitz.
NationBuilder, creators of the first community organizing system, today announced it has secured $6.25 million in funding led by Andreessen Horowitz. NationBuilder also announced that Co-founder Joe Green has taken on the role of President and that Ben Horowitz and Sean Parker, also an investor, have joined its Board of Directors. This funding will allow the company to meet growing demand and expand its world-class engineering team during this important election year.

NationBuilder synthesizes a Content Management System (CMS) with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) into one service designed specifically to organize people - a Community Organizing System (COS). Before NationBuilder, it was impossible to create this type of functionality without a tech team and many thousands of dollars, assets only available to large organizations and campaigns.

"NationBuilder is that rarest of products that not only has the potential to change its market, but to change the world," said Ben Horowitz, general partner and co-founder at Andreessen Horowitz. "Jim Gilliam is the perfect CEO to make that happen." Read more about NationBuilder on Ben's blog today.

The NationBuilder Community Organizing System helps leaders unite people to take action around a common purpose, large or small. NationBuilder makes it easy and affordable to set up world-class campaigns and communities, with social media sharing built into every step. User engagement and retention are at the core of the design, and dozens of web-based tools and platforms are already incorporated into the service. Additionally, NationBuilder manages mass communications via email, text, phone and web, and organizes all real-time content into a fully customizable dashboard.

"The power of organizing communities online has had a deep impact on my own life," said Jim Gilliam, Founder and CEO of NationBuilder. "I'm grateful to this stellar team of investors for making it possible for us to bring this power to everyone, and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect group of people in Joe, Ben, and Sean to complete our team."

NationBuilder has helped over 1800 leaders organize more than 500 nations with 2 million supporters. Leaders rely on NationBuilder to drive political campaigns, rally support around films, mobilize volunteers for education reform and more; from grassroots movements to nationwide crusades.

"Grassroots organizing tends to be most available to big campaigns, but it's actually most useful to small ones," said Joe Green, NationBuilder's President and Co-founder. "You can't win a presidential campaign without going on TV, but you can win a local election simply by organizing your community. NationBuilder levels the playing field."
