The company behind a successful app development platform has received seed funding for its package manager.

npm, Inc. received $2.6 million for its npm package manager, designed to develop Node.js apps, according to published reports. The investment came from True Ventures, Jevon MacDonald, Gavin Uhma, Charles Beeler, and Asynch Media.

True Ventures partner Puneet Agarwal called Node.js 'lightning in a bottle' in a blog post, and said that there's a 'huge opportunity for a company to commercialize this large installed user base and provide value on top.' The investment particularly interested True Ventures because of Node.js's open-source nature.

npm, Inc. is led by alumni of Joyent, which developed and maintains Node.js. The team includes co-founders Isaac Schlueter, Laurie Voss, and Rod Boothby.
